Jharkhand crafts

Jharkhand originally a tribal State known for its wood work, bamboo work, tribal ornaments and stone carving. But the lack of promotion and marketing for these products has mostly resulted in extinction of some crafts like stone carving. Wood Craft.  Due to abundance of wood resulted in the variety of wood articles for household requirement.  Wood Craft include door panels, boxes and windows besides wooden spoon, etc.  These articles are beautiful and has market both in India and abroad.  Bamboo Craft.  It exhibit beautiful hand work.  It include different types of baskets and wall hanging.  Other bamboo accessories used for fishing and hunting.  Metal Work.  It is one of the most well known forms of craft in the whole State of Jharkhand.  It exhibit beautiful amalgamation of utility and looks.  Jharkhand metal work can be classified into four broad categories.  It include weapons, Ornaments, hunting implements and the agriculture equipments.  Stone Carving.

Jharkhand Arts

Most of the Art forms of Jharkhand are named after tribes, which has its own unique forms and expression. Sohrai Art.  This is generally practised by women of farming community.  This is rural art form.  It is a rural paintings depicting the harvest festival in autumn.  It is consider to bring good luck.  It is painted with the colours red, black, white and yellow.  Earth and large images are painted on the walls with twigs and thin sticks.  These pictures depicts the pictures of animals like bull, horse, wild animals and horned deities.  Paitkar Painting.  One of the oldest tribal painting in India.  Due to appearance it is called Scroll painting.  Artists use natural colour and vermillion to paint on soiled or used papers.  The hair of goat or the help of needle is used to apply colour.  The essence of these painting is found in Garuda Purana.  Jadupatua Painting.  Practised by Santhals.  The artisans make scroll called jado or jadupatua.  Natural colours
